Winter 2003

Steve Rinaldi

My large family made life interesting and fast- paced. I grew up in Rhode Island, the second oldest of six children. During this busy time, I had a number of unique experiences which were always fun to recount at family outtings. One time, I was driving with my brothers and suddenly told everyone to put their seatbelts on because we were about to be involved in an accident. They, of course, laughed. I was very insistent that they did as I asked, and moments later we were in a head on collision. My brothers listened to my warning and we were fine, but a passenger in the front seat of the other car went into the windshield and needed to go to the hospital.

Similar experiences foreshadowed what I now believe to be my God-given gift. Little things like knowing beforehand who was knocking at the door, or who was calling on the phone, were commonplace. Occasionally, my dreams foreshadowed upcoming events. Aside from this part of me that I largely ignored, I went to school and followed in my father’s footsteps to become a dentist. He and I practiced together for 12 years. During this time, I enjoyed my work but often felt I was supposed to be doing something else -- something that would make a greater difference in my patients’ lives.
Although it was scary, I listened and trusted my inner voice. I sold my dental practice, not sure what was in store for me and my family. Everyone told me I was crazy! I worked reasonable hours, earned a comfortable living and enjoyed family time. Why was I giving all of this up? My first venture was starting an Internet company that provided services for dentists. I later joined another company, continuing to search for what was missing in my life. During this time, my intuitive experiences continued to occur and I stopped passing them off as a coincidence. Instead, I allowed myself to become more open to these experiences and tried to figure out what it all meant.

Something incredible began to happen in my life. The more open I became, the more experiences I had. I started getting a sense of what was physically wrong with people when in public. Walking through airports or in a restaurant I’d catch myself saying “that person has lung cancer or she has a kidney problem”. Later, my intuition was medically confirmed many times. One person had gone into anaphylactic shock several times, the doctors did not know the cause. I spoke with this person for a few minutes and knew that the cause was pesticide present on something that was eaten. Three weeks later the doctors found the cause to be food eaten with traces of pesticide.

Soon I began helping more and more people. Friends and acquaintances with headaches, backaches, arthritis and other acute and chronic ailments could feel some relief through my hands-on or even long-distance healing. One woman had headaches every day for a 3 to 4 month period, some migraines. After one session with me, her headaches disappeared. She mentioned that her nine month old son had projectile vomited every single day since his birth. I worked with him and his vomit episodes ceased. Medical records of both document their histories with these ailments. A friend in South Carolina called me in Rhode Island complaining of an excruciating earache, which was diagnosed at an urgent care medical practice. I gave him a visualization exercise to perform, did “my thing” and advised that he would experience some popping in his ear followed by drainage of the infection. He called 30 minutes later to say that is exactly what happened and he felt better.

I was obviously very excited and thankful for all these experiences. My inner urge to do more with my life to help others was being satisfied. I prayed for guidance and asked, “If you gave me this gift of hands on healing which I feel is my life’s work, why did I become a dentist? How does everything fit?” The answer came to me while driving – Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ)! “It’s TMJ!!” I was overwhelmed and needed to pull over. I treated many patients with TMJ Disorders successfully through the years and thoroughly enjoyed it. Combining my dental treatment with hands on healing was the answer to my many prayers.

It is difficult to convey how passionate I am about my work – and how exciting it is to be able to share my gift with others. I asked some of my patients if they were interested in giving a description of their treatment experiences for the readers of this article. Below are their words.

Susan: Computer Consultant, Rhode Island
I recently started TMJ treatment, a jaw problem which many dentists and physicians choose not to treat. My symptoms consist primarily of a very loud cracking each time I open my mouth with occasional jaw locking. I also experience mild pain sporadically. People in my presence at meals are quite unsettled and disturbed, which makes me very uncomfortable.

I started treatment with Dr. Steve Rinaldi about three weeks ago and have already experienced marvelous results with my jaw, as well as from a stress management and spiritual exploration perspective. Dr. Rinaldi addresses physical, emotional and spiritual issues. This is very important to me since I strive to expand my own spirituality through the study of Native Americans. From the beginning I felt Steve was different and knew there was some kind of connection that led me to him. Steve is a healer! His healing ability helps me with my TMJ problems and motivates me to explore the spiritual nature of life itself.

Our treatments involve tooth adjustments, massage of the jaw, hands on healing, jaw exercises and vitamin therapy. The placement of Steve’s hands on each side of my face produces heat and energy that has increased with each treatment. I felt a tingling throughout my body down to my toes that lasted several hours. An intense feeling of peace and contentment lasts the entire day no matter what stress I encounter. I look forward to each treatment with great anticipation, for this I am thankful.
His gift is miraculous and should definitely be shared with more people.

For a few years I have had problems with my jaw. There was a lot of discomfort in the joints that would lock up and make cracking sounds all the time, it was very painful. I had a feeling it was a TMJ issue because my mom had similar symptoms that eventually required surgery. I was a little nervous to go and get it checked to say the least. I finally went to Dr. Steve Rinaldi.

My first meeting with Steve made me feel a lot better with the whole situation. Steve took the time to explain what was going on and what he was going to do about it. In a short period of time I felt like I knew him for years. At each appointment, Steve massaged my facial muscles, I felt his hands get warm very quickly and also experienced a tingly sensation. The next day I felt great, I couldn’t explain it. He then told me about a gift that God gave him. The gift of a healing touch. I have heard about people having the ability to heal but didn't believe it, until I met Steve.

I am also in my 4th year of remission from cancer. I had a lot of pain in my back since the surgery. Every night I went to bed with pain, it took awhile to get comfortable. Steve took the time to put his hands on my back at the end of every appointment. I no longer experience the discomfort, locking or popping in my jaw and get a much better night’s sleep due to little or no pain in my back. I thank God for leading me to Steve and I thank Steve for being more than just another doctor, rather, a friend. I didn't believe in the power of the healing touch before, I certainly believe in it now.

Elaine: Massage Therapist, Massachusetts
My symptoms before treatment included facial tension and moderate pain in the jaw. There was intermittent pain on the left side of my face and grinding in both joints. I also experienced neck and shoulder muscular tension. A chiropractor I work with had heard of Dr. Rinaldi and mentioned him to me. It was the combination of traditional dental TMJ treatment and the energy work that interested me.
During treatment I felt very comfortable, the atmosphere is wonderful in the office. The healing portion I found extremely relaxing and peaceful, a lot of heat penetrated into my jaw muscles and eventually spread even deeper into the cartilage and joint tissues themselves. I also felt the energy radiate into my neck, shoulders and back.

Since the treatments I have a significant reduction in pain and tension in my facial muscles. I can open my jaw wider without discomfort and with less grinding. All and all the treatments have had a positive effect on my life, significantly decreasing my facial pain and muscular tension.

Lisa: College Student, New Mexico
I was diagnosed with TMJ about 5 or 6 years before I started treatment with Dr. Rinaldi. When I started my appointments in April of 2002, the pain in my jaw had become so intense that eating was something I dreaded. The pain would distract me from my daily life and keep me awake at night. I had tried other methods of alleviating the pain and the popping that I experienced on a regular basis. This included chiropractic work, massages, and taking supplements like Glucosamine Sulfate.
Dr. Rinaldi used a combination of massaging the muscles around my jaw, hands on energy, applying heated compresses to my face, molding a mouth guard to fit my teeth and filing small quantities of my teeth down. The massaging of my muscles and hands on energy was very soothing and relaxing.
All of the procedures were painless; I actually looked forward to the weekly jaw massage and hands on energy as a way to temporarily alleviate any pain I was feeling. About 2 weeks after beginning treatment, the pain in my jaw decreased significantly for the first time in about a year. Now, after 7 treatments, the pain is virtually non-existent.

My story is not about a person with the gift of healing, but about someone who is open, receptive, and trusting of his inner voice and a Higher Power guiding him to fulfill his life’s work. It is my hope that my story will give you inner strength to follow your chosen path, meet obstacles head on, be strong in your convictions and become the person you have dreamed of being. You can do the work you have chosen through your own free will! Let your life become an expression of what you co-created with God.
